  • Wavo has no ads, no analytics and no trackers, and we never sell your data.
  • Your location is used to guide you. Our servers use the places in a request to answer it, then forget them.
  • You only need an account to subscribe and to share reports, and you can delete it in the app at any time.

Who we are

Wavo is made by Brightboard AI Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16832757), whose registered office is at The Screening House, Cwm Cynon Business Park, Mountain Ash, CF45 4ER, United Kingdom. We're responsible for your personal data in Wavo. For questions or requests, email samuel@brightboardai.com.

What Wavo uses, and why

Where you are and where you're going

Wavo uses your iPhone's location to show where you are, guide you, and warn you about speed limits, cameras and reports ahead, including on CarPlay and with the screen locked during a drive.

To plan a route, show traffic, find places or check prices, the app sends our servers what each request needs, such as your position, your destination and stops, or what you searched for. Our servers answer and keep none of it. Their logs record that a request was made, when, and from which internet address, but leave out where you are, where you're going and what you searched for. Logs are deleted after 30 days at most.

Your driving score, miles, recent places, Home, Work and favourites stay on your phone.

Your morning alarm

If you set an alarm for a drive, the app sends our server the drive's start, destination and times, and your phone's address for notifications. Our server watches the traffic and moves your alarm earlier if it needs to. It deletes these details once the alarm has gone off.

Ask Wavo

When you ask Wavo something, your question and where you are, or where you're heading on a drive, go to AI models through OpenRouter so they can answer it. The models may look things up on the web. Nothing that says who you are goes with them. We may keep an answer for a while, to reply faster when someone nearby asks the same thing.

Driver reports

If you report a camera, police, an accident, a breakdown, something in the road or a pothole, or answer "Still there?", we keep what you reported, where, which way you were heading and when, with your account. Other drivers see the report, never who made it, until it expires: from 30 minutes to 14 days, depending on the kind.

Keeping reports with your account lets us count one answer per driver, take down reports that drivers say are gone, and stop showing new reports from drivers whose reports often turn out wrong. We keep your reports and answers until you delete your account.

Your account

You sign in with Apple, or with a code we email you. We keep your email address and an account ID. With Sign in with Apple you can hide your email, and Apple gives us a private address instead. We don't ask for your name.

Your subscription

Apple takes the payment, and we never see your card. RevenueCat, which runs our subscriptions, gets your account ID and Apple's receipts, so the app knows your plan is active.

Voice search

Voice search uses Apple's speech recognition, on your iPhone where it can. Otherwise Apple processes the recording, under Apple's privacy policy.

Themed maps

The themed maps are painted from satellite photos. When you look at somewhere that hasn't been painted yet, our servers paint it. Only the area goes with that, not who you are.

Traffic, tolls and fuel

To time routes with live traffic, our servers send TomTom the route. In the US and Canada, they send a toll-price provider the route's start, end and toll roads. Fuel prices come from public price feeds. None of this says who you are.

Who else handles it

We use these services to run Wavo. Each handles your data only to do its job for us.

  • Railway hosts our servers, in the Netherlands and the United States.
  • Supabase keeps accounts and reports, in London.
  • Apple handles payments, notifications, Sign in with Apple and speech recognition.
  • RevenueCat runs subscriptions, in the United States.
  • OpenRouter, and the AI providers it uses, answer Ask Wavo, in the United States and elsewhere.
  • TomTom provides live traffic, in the Netherlands.
  • A toll-price provider prices tolls in the US and Canada, in the United States.
  • Our email service sends sign-in codes.
  • Cloudflare hosts this website, which has no ads, analytics or tracking cookies.

Some of these services are in the United States. Where your data goes outside the UK, it's protected as the law requires, for example under the UK-US data bridge or standard contract clauses.

Our legal reasons

  • To give you the app, your account and your subscription, as you've asked.
  • To keep Wavo safe and working, stop misuse and keep reports reliable, which are our legitimate interests.
  • Your location, only with your permission, which you can turn off in your iPhone's Settings at any time.
  • To meet our legal duties, such as keeping tax records.

How long we keep it

  • Route, search and price requests: not kept once answered. Server logs: 30 days at most.
  • Alarm details: until the alarm goes off.
  • Your account, reports and answers: until you delete your account.
  • Purchase records: Apple and RevenueCat keep them as the law requires.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, and ask us to correct it, delete it or send it to you in a form you can take elsewhere. You can also object to or limit how we use it.

To delete your account, open Wavo, then Settings, Account, Delete account. That deletes your account, reports and answers at once. It doesn't cancel your subscription, which you do in your Apple Account settings.

For anything else, email samuel@brightboardai.com. Wherever you live, you can ask the same, and we'll answer as your local law requires. We don't sell or share personal information for advertising.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

Wavo is a driving app, not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Security

Everything between the app and our servers is encrypted on the way, and only we can reach the data we keep.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and its date, and tell you in the app about anything important.
